Some preliminary work to whet your appetite.

Script is completed as of May 2013

Storyboards

Thumbnails started - halfway through the script.

Dredd design plus one other finalised

As of today the final design for Dredd has been approved! This includes a complete turnaround of the character, showing the details from all angles. At the same time one of the secondary characters that helps to propel the story has also been finalised but so as not to spoil the story, we are not saying who or what that is!

All the temporary voices needed for the cartoon have been recorded and added to the animatic, to prepare for the next stage. This helps decide what works and what doesn't and if parts need tightening up!

First Animatic finished, now we trim it!

First version of the Animatic is finished. Temporary voices and sound have been added to see if everything works from page to screen. It's over 7 minutes long and needs to be trimmed as close to 5 minutes as we can get it. The script needs to be tightened up more and some shots cut completely, which will be the next step.

Character designs are coming along nicely. Seven are completely finished, including the main man himself!

Below is an image from the thumbnails to whet your appetite. Again...it's a thumbnail and this chicken scratching does not reflect the look of the finished animation.

Newscaster Character Design.

Here is the uncoloured, final design of the Newscaster.

Obviously we weren't going to show old stoney face himself but this will give you an idea of the style that will appear on screen.

City Concept Sketch and Character Design.

As you are aware, the animatic takes a long time to complete, as the last thing you want is to start the next stage and find that you need to change things. The editing is time consuming, as words may be taken out, some extra added or a scene may have to be completely rewritten to help the flow of the story. What is written down on paper may just not look right on screen.
Add to that the running time and keeping everything sharp and not losing any pace in the story and you can see, it takes time. We may have been quiet for a while but behind the scenes things are moving steadily and to a purpose.

Just to excite you, we are releasing another citizen from the Big Meg, plus a Concept sketch of the city.

Mega-City One concept sketch.

8/13/14 Proper Storyboards begin!

THE AWESOME TEAM officially start storyboarding today based on some very rough thumbnails to use as a guideline.

Reference files have been sent for the City, People, Vehicles..with one or two surprise background characters.
And here's a list of artists we used for reference...Mike McMahon, Carlos Ezquerra, Henry Flint, Ron Smith, Colin MacNeill, John Higgins, Cam Kennedy, Barry Kitson, Steve Dillon and Ron Smith!

Mick is currently finishing and tweaking the character designs and should be complete by the 20th of August. And we will release another of the designs...it'll be an important one too that will hopefully get people buzzed more about the project.

Cheers,
Stephen 'Flint Lockjaw' Reid.

8/24/14 Dredd Revealed

There's no point drokkin' about when it comes to Dredd, so here's Old Stony Face from the upcoming DREDD ANIMATED SHORT. This detailed 'turnaround' model comes from Mick Cassidy, who currently works as a character designer on Family Guy!

Also at this very moment the storyboards are currently being worked on by Eric Petersen's company 'The Awesome Team'. This will turn Stephen Reid's thumbnails into detailed storyboards and take us right into the world of Dredd that we have come to accept, from the pages of 2000 AD.

As you can see, now that the initial laborious work has all been approved, then the more exciting and visual part of the short can progress. Until everything was finished and was checked and double checked to make sure it ran correctly, then there was no point moving on. That's why the team have been very quiet as of late!

We hope you enjoy these images of Dredd and understand that, while we were quiet, many things have happened.

Look forward to the next bit of info that we reveal
